Amy Glazer‘s new film THE SURROGATE, based off of PlayGround alumna Patricia Cotter‘s play of the same name and co-written by Glazer, Cotter and Lynn Webb, premiered as part of the Frameline Film Festival in 2020 and is now showing on Amazon Prime. It started back in 2017 as a Monday Night PlayGround short play, and is now a fun film shot in the Bay with an amazing cast (Joy Carlin has a great role, Erin Daniels – from THE L WORD is the lead and Wendie Malick from a whole lot of stuff is hilarious). https://www.amazon.com/Surrogate-Erin-Daniels/dp/B09NYKSZ53

Julia Brothers just finished a two month run of Wendy MacLeod’s WOMEN IN JEOPARDY at Arizona Theatre Company. Back in NYC with the freezing temperatures, she is working on a multi-disciplinary solo piece and is thinking of going back to the gym for the first time in…a long, long time.

Nancy Carlin is directing a new play, RED WINGED BLACKBIRD, by Berkeley playwright Alyosha Zim. Features Adam Magill, Aaron Wilton, Rinabeth Apostal, Julian Lopez-Morillas, Danielle Levin, and Ogie Zulueta. Runs March 3-20 at Live Oak Theater.

Katja Rivera is busy casting her next play, REFERENCES TO SALVADOR DALI MAKE ME HOT, (opening in July at custom made Theatre), and will direct in the March Monday Night PlayGround. She is also doing a lot of FaceTime with her grandson, Leo.

Mark Sherstinsky’s play, THE THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE, originally part of Monday Night PlayGround-LA, will be staged by Strange Rx in San Francisco in April, as part of the Your Worst Nightmare Play Festival.

Rachel Bublitz is workshopping her play “THE SUMMER I HOWLED” with the Egyptian YouTheatre now through the end of April, which will culminate in a showcase performance. Her play “BIZ TOWN” received its premiere in February at Redwood Day School, and the first production of her radio play “URSA MAJOR & THE LAST BEAR ON EARTH” is in rehearsal now with Play Is The Thing.

Claire Ganem will be directing a reading of FAERIES, OR OUT THE OTHER SIDE by Jasmine Woods and Colette Gunn-Graffy at Town Hall Theatre on March 14th.

Louis Parnell is serving as a dramaturgue for a new show entitled CLARA by Linda Ayres-Frederick. It is a one-woman show produced for the 3Girls Theatre Salon Series. It will play at the Phoenix Theatre on Sunday March 13 and will stream for one-week after that date. For more info visit the 3 Girls Theatre website. Admission is free.

Norman Gee, in addition to all he does with PlayGround-SF, will be onstage with two companies this month: a short demo of Word for Word’s unique style with HIDDEN FIGURES, and understudying for WATER BY THE SPOONNFUL at SF Playhouse. And if that isn’t enough, he will also lead a workshop for teens at the Eugene O’Neill Foundation -whew!
