See what PlayGround Writers and Company Members are up to this June!

Jeunée Simon will be appearing onstage with Tierra Allen, Carolina Morones, Alan Quismorio, Kayla May Paz Suarez, and Radhika Rao in poet-playwright Aimee Suzara’s world premiere – THE REAL SAPPHO, a confrontation, a celebration, and the new beginnings of a classic. Directed by Nailah Harper-Malveaux, the show runs June 24th-July 10th, get tickets here. Jeunée also had the privilege to do intimacy direction for Berkeley Playhouse’s “Little Shop of Horrors” running May 27 – July 3, 2022.

Madeleine Butler‘s three short plays will receive a staged reading by Drama with Friends, a Bay Area group, in an upcoming showcase on Monday, June 20 at 7:00 PM. THE STORY OF OUR LIVES, STUCK, and THE RIVER GOD will be presented live over Zoom, followed by a question-and-answer session with the playwright. All three plays were originally written for and staged by Monday Night PlayGround. Cindy Goldfield is starting rehearsals for FOLLIES at SF Playhouse, (playing Carlotta Campion and covering Sally), and is very excited to spend the summer with Sondheim. You can learn more here.

Annette Amelia Oliveira recently recorded two audiobooks for Penguin-Random House which were released May 17 and May 24. One is a novel titled “Neruda on the Park: and is about a Dominican family in New York. The second is “History Smashers: The Mayflower”, a young adult book which tells the true and often humorous tale of the Pilgrims, the Mayflower, Thanksgiving and Native Americans.

Madeline Puccioni‘s one-act play, QUEEN OF SORROWS, will open Saturday 5/21 at A NOISE WITHIN theatre in Pasadena, produced by Towne Street Theatre. QUEEN of SORROWS re- imagines Euripides’ HECUBA in the final days of the American Civil War. Plantation owners ALDOUS and CYNTHIA BREMERTON pay the consequences of their terrible secret, but it is their slave, POLLY, who teaches them the tragic price of freedom. Ross Peter Nelson’s play, LES CHIENS ERRANTSis launching the Montana Playwrights Network Staged Reading Series. A public presentation of this play is scheduled for June 25 at 7 p.m. at the Helena Avenue Theatre (Helena, MT), by the Montana Playwrights Network and will include a facilitated discussion with the playwright. Louis Parnell will be playing Dimitri Weissman in Sondheim’s FOLLIES at the San Francisco Playhouse now in rehearsal. First Preview is June 30th, Opening night July 6th and it plays Tuesdays through Sundays until September 10th. For tickets and more information contact the San Francisco Playhouse website. Rebecca Pingree will appear in Analog Theatre’s June Mask Monday at Standard Deviant Brewing in SF!
