Acknowledging the Legacy of the Land We Inhabit
PlayGround acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush (RAH-my-toosh) Ohlone (oh-LOW-nee) and Lisjan (lih-SHAH-n) Ohlone, the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula and East Bay, respectively. As the past and present Indigenous stewards of this land and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone and Lisjan have never ceded, lost, nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. We recognize the historic injustice of the forcible removal of the Ohlone people from their ancestral lands, and that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the Ancestors, Elders and Relatives of the Ramaytush and Lisjan Communities and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples. We honor the storytellers of the Ohlone and are grateful for our ability to share and uplift Indigenous stories and those of other historically marginalized communities.
To learn about the legacy of the land you inhabit, visit Native-Land.ca | Our home on native land. To read the complete Land Acknowledgment Policy, click here.
PlayGround’s Anti-Racist Policy
PlayGround recognizes the impact of racial oppression within society and the American Theater and that we have been complicit in White Supremacy culture. Our goal is to co-create safety for our community by identifying and interrupting instances of racism and all forms of oppression when we witness them, through specific actions rooted in the principles of anti-racism and accessibility. In its endeavor to address the implications of our history, PlayGround is committed to its compliance with the following fundamental rights:
- The recognition of inherent dignity and worth of each human being.
- The recognition of equality of all human beings.
- Recognition of rights of ethnic, racial, cultural, linguistic and religious groups.

GEOFFREY GRIER (Resurrection), he/they, performs Resurrection, a story of Grier’s rise, fall, and recovery from many vices. He takes us on a very personal journey that is a narrative of resilience from his hometown of Detroit to San Francisco. Grier’s journey goes from the extremes of family love to the depths of addiction. He then invites us to experience his uplifting voyage of recovery and resurrection from the vices. Using the depth of his experiences, Grier now manages the San Francisco Recovery Theatre, whose mission is to organize the partnership between actors, scripted material, writers, directors, and newcomers (returning citizens and homeless performers). As a recovering addict, Grier believes that the artistic processes of theater and the performing arts give people a chance to lower the masks they wear on the street and successfully communicate from the heart and in the moment.
RIC IVERSON (Ric Iverson Is Alive and Well and Living In Milpitas – The Highly Concentrated Version), he/him, “was born in Santa Cruz in the 60’s” is the absolute perfect bio for Ric, but they asked for 50-100 words, so he went on…Ric will never not be forever thankful to his husband, and their two kids, for several lifetimes full of more adventure than any one man has any right to…58, 59, 60! Done!

That work, along with her theatre degree, is what led to Rachel’s solo show, BOY VEY. Beth Henley (LMU professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright) awarded Rachel the 2021 Sustained Achievement in Playwriting title for her work.
TANSU PHILIP (Paratha), she/her, is an Indian-American third culture kid from Redlands, CA. Her first TV pilot, PARATHA, was an official selection at SeriesFest 2022 and a semifinalist in The Script Lab 2021 Screenplay Contest. After watching the TV show Fleabag, which started out as a one woman show, Tansu was inspired to do the opposite and turn her pilot into a play. She is very grateful to the Playground staff for this opportunity, especially Jim Kleinmann, and would also like to thank her boyfriend David Friedman and best friend Kirsten Baird for their constant support. She would also like to thank anyone who has ever read lines with her, given notes on her pilot, or watched a performance – in person or virtually! She would not be here without her friends and family.
DANIEL MARTINEZ, JR. (Round Hole), he/him, is an actor and writer based in San Jose. Daniel previously premiered his first one man show, Me Again, at last year’s Solo Fest and is ecstatic to be back sharing his latest work. Daniel is a new member of the Playground Writers’ Pool, where he’s gotten to explore and grow his writing talents this season. Daniel is extremely grateful for the chance to tell these deeply personal stories. He’s also extremely grateful for Austin Bean as this show wouldn’t have come together without him.
