FARRAH FENIX – a passionate professional wrestling rookie
MAYA MONEY – a veteran of the professional wrestling industry
RYAN – a sleazy independent wrestling promoter
(Farrah and Ryan walk through the backstage area of a professional wrestling promotion.)
RYAN – So, we have you for the opening squash match tonight. Did you get your travel stipend?
FARRAH – Yes! We’re good. Thanks.
RYAN – Great. You can hang back here for now. I’ll be coming back 15 minutes before curtain just to hear your plans. If there’s anything that needs tightening we’ll take care of it. Looking at you right now though, I don’t think that’ll be a problem.
FARRAH – Ummm…when are we putting the match together?
RYAN – I’ll have Maya head over from the heel dressing room in a minute. Good luck.
(Ryan winks at Farrah. He exits.)
FARRAH (to herself) – Just breathe. You’re meant for this.
(Farrah shadow boxes as she tries to psyche herself up.)
FARRAH (CONT.) – No one can take this from you. Tonight you got it. This is it. You got Maya freaking Money! Maya enters.
MAYA – Hey, kid.
FARRAH – Hello! Hi-um-how are you-hi!
MAYA – I’m Maya.
(They shake hands.)
FARRAH – Oh, believe me, I know who you are. I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m a huge mark for you.
MAYA – That’s sweet, kid. I’m flattered.
FARRAH – This is-I’ve wanted to work with you since I don’t know how long. I’ve wrestled you in my head a thousand times, but to do it for real is-you’re the reason I’m even in the business, so thank you.
MAYA – Alright then. Let’s talk business.
FARRAH – Sure.
MAYA – Let’s start with the basics.
FARRAH – Okay.
MAYA – Your name?
FARRAH – Oh I didn’t even-my bad. Farrah Fenix.
MAYA – Okay, good gimmick. Tell me about her. Who is she?
FARRAH – She’s a fighter. No matter how many times you knock her down she comes back more determined than ever. She may not be the greatest athlete or the strongest in the room, but she has the biggest heart.
