TECH WEEK
By Madison Wetzell
NARRATOR – Any age, any race, resonant voice
JEFF – Male, 40s-60s, Artistic Director
MANDY – Female, 30s-50s, Technical Director
NARRATOR: In the beginning there was the ghostlight. And backstage a mid-century couch from God of Carnage and a gilded mirror from La Cage au Folles. And for some reason a plastic skull in a wedding veil that everybody calls Vince. And the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the earth. And then Jeff said
JEFF: Let there be light.
NARRATOR: And there was light on stage left. And Jeff said:
JEFF: Actually, that’s too much light.
NARRATOR: And Mandy said into the headset:
MANDY: Hey Ian, can we warm up the lights and bring them down a bit.
NARRATOR: And Jeff saw that the light was good. And Jeff separated the light from darkness with a little piece of tape on the floor. And Jeff called the light Day and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning. The first day. Then Jeff said:
JEFF: Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.
NARRATOR: And Mandy said:
MANDY: What?
NARRATOR: And Jeff said:
JEFF: It’s visual poetry.
NARRATOR: And Mandy said:
MANDY: For sure. But where is the dome with respect to the water?
NARRATOR: And Jeff said:
JEFF: Everywhere.
NARRATOR: And Mandy said:
MANDY: Could I get some rough dimensions?
NARRATOR: And Jeff said:
JEFF: Ask Tina.
NARRATOR: Then Sydney and Clark and River, the intern, made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. And Jeff called the dome Sky and there was evening and there was morning, the second day. Then Jeff said:
JEFF: Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and the dry land appear.
NARRATOR: And Mandy said:
MANDY: Ok, so we don’t want the water everywhere?
NARRATOR: And Jeff said:
JEFF: No.
NARRATOR: And Mandy said:
MANDY: [Suppressing exasperation] Ok. We’ll move the water.
NARRATOR: And it was so.
