JUST ANNOUNCED: APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR 2025 FREE-PLAY FESTIVAL
PlayGround will close out the summer season with the fourth annual FREE-PLAY FESTIVAL. This four-week “fringe style” new works festival is open to artists from across the country who want to bring their show to San Francisco!

Please use this form to submit your application for the non-curated 2025 Free-Play Festival (August 1-24, 2025). Applications must be received by 11:59pm on March 24, 2025. Lottery selections will be completed and announced by March 28, 2025. Free-Play Festival licensing fees for selected projects are due no later than April 30, 2025. New this year: Producers can choose to book either three or four performances as part of the festival! Details here.

LAST YEAR’S FREE-PLAY FESTIVAL BROKE BOX OFFICE RECORDS
Ranging in subject from the U.S. Citizen Test to mentally ill mothers to gender dysphoria, and varying in styles from dance pieces to ensemble plays to one-person shows, PlayGround’s 2024 Free-Play Festival featured a stellar lineup of seasoned theatre professionals, first-time producers, and all-star performers in every aspect of live performance, direction, and choreography. Each production was presented for three performances at Potrero Stage (18th Street @ Arkansas) and also simulcast online. Growing from 11 productions (compared to just three the yar before), the event drew thousands of patrons and both in-person and online and distributed over $3,200 to Festival artists.
