Three Tall-ish Tales are coming to Free-Play, penned by PlayGround-SF Playwrights Stan Stone (Revenge of the Q.A.I.), Jan Probst (Road Trip), and Linda Ayres-Frederick (Ethel & Joe at the Empire State): August 7 at 6pm, Aug 8 at 8pm, and Aug 9 at 2pm. Be prepared to raise your hands in joyful protest, laugh out loud, and feel your heart skip a beat! All in less than an hour!
Mary Baird did an ARC read of Greater Clements and The Welkin at Marin Shakespeare indoor space. Reprising Ellen Clark Sargent for the Democratic Women of Nevada County. She’s ready for a vacation.
Laura Domingo is part of the writing team for Killing My Lobster’s new Gold Rush-inspired sketch comedy shows being presented August 22 & 23 at the inaugural San Francisco Historium Spotlight, an immersive theatrical experience at SF’s Pier 35, produced by the creators of the The Great Dickens Christmas Fair. The show will then move to Z Below September 4, 5, 11 & 12.
Carolyn Doyle will be part of AmiosWest’s “Shotz: MAXXING” – seven fresh new plays on the theme: MAXXING. Presented at the Eclectic Box in San Francisco on Friday, August 28th.
Greg Lam’s full length sci-fi drama REPOSSESSED will be produced in Berkeley by Artists Ensemble of Berkeley July 31-August 9 at the intimate LaVal’s Subterranean Theater. Directed by Gabriel A. Ross. What if you could purchase new skills, make yourself more charming, be more compatible with your spouse, get better at math, or maybe just improve your golf score – on the installment plan! “Repossessed” revolves around a couple that have contracted with a corporation (“LIFE ENHANCED”) to implant skills, knowledge, and memories into their brains, and delete the knowledge of the implantation, so it seems “natural”. All is well and good until they fall behind on payments!
Alicia Mason is in a play at Shotgun Players starting August 1st called Iphigenia in Splott!
Lisa Morse (along with a cast of 17 actors, 13 of whom are women, many of whom are 50+ women) will be participating in a special Reading/Benefit/Party of The Welkin, August 3rd at 7pm at the indoor space at Marin Shakespeare, 514 4th in San Rafael.
Eiko Moon-Yamamoto is playing Bloody Mary in 6th Street Playhouse’s production of South Pacific. Opens August 21 until September 20 at the GK Hardt Stage in Santa Rosa.
Molly Noble is happy to be playing in Jon Tracy’s reimagining of Julius Caesar (with several other wonderful PlayGrounders) at Marin Shakespeare Co. this August and September.
Doyle Ott and Lindsey Abbott are delighted to invite PlayGround members to the Curtain Theatre’s production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, starting free-of-charge performances August 15! The Curtain Theatre returns to Old Mill Park with Love’s Labour’s Lost — rowdy, romantic chaos where vows crumble and women win.
Emilie Talbot will be appearing in the the Actors’ Reading Collective’s whizbang reading of THE WELKIN by Lucy Kirkwood on August 3, along with Playground company members Lisa Morse, Gwen Loeb, Mary Baird, Leontyne Mbele-Mbong, Stacy Ross, Danielle Levin and others. It will be an amazing night and a big shindig. Join us at Marin Shakespeare Company’s indoor space in San Rafael on Aug 3 at 7 pm.
Kimberly Ridgeway directed Ride the Cyclone at City Lights theatre, with Musical and Vocal Direction by Juanita Harris and Sam Cisneros and Choreography by Jennifer Cuevas, which opened July 18th. Ride the Cyclone a dark, hilarious, and poignantly life-affirming, musical is a beloved viral Off-Broadway hit and runs through Sunday, August 23rd. MORE INFO.
Louel Señores is putting in hours back at where his theater career first started right after college: Central Works, where he is the Stage Manager for the rehearsal portion of their final production, The Prince parts 1 and 2. At the time of this writing, they just had opening weekend this past Saturday & Sunday. It is now Wednesday… time to start Q2Q for Part 2. What even is this insane schedule!
Maury Zeff’s comedy sketches “Open Mike Night in Amish Country” and “Brutal Honesty” will be produced August 22 as part of Limelight’s Summer Night of Sketches at the People’s Improv Theater in New York City and his new play “Dewey Decimated” will be featured in Shotz’s show at the Eclectic Box in San Francisco August 28.
